INTERLEND 2020 Cancelled due to coronavirus (COVID-19)

After careful consideration, we have decided to cancel the Interlend 2020 Conference, which
was scheduled to take place 22 – 23 June 2020 in Newcastle. The FIL committee has taken
the very difficult decision as a result of the ongoing concern with COVID-19.

Our primary goal is to help ensure the safety and health of conference participants and staff.

We hope to see you at Interlend 2021 and FIL committee members would like to take this
opportunity to pass on our best wishes at this difficult time.

If you have any questions please contact us via fil.committee@gmail.com

Interlend 2020 Newcastle 22nd & 23rd June 2020

FIL is monitoring the situation with the COVID-19 (coronavirus) and the recommendations regarding events and travel provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO), and information from the Department of Health.

At this stage, FIL is, of course, continuing with preparations for the conference and will communicate on any changes that may arise.

Interlend 2020: Copyright Conundrums and other things in the World of Interlending

The FIL committee now invites applications from the inter-lending community to speak and/or run breakout sessions or workshop sessions.

Interlend 2020 will be hosted at the County Hotel, Newcastle on 22nd and 23rd of June 2020. The theme for Interlend 2020 centres on Copyright and its effects on interlending practices and behaviour by new and evolving technologies and how we can meet expectations and challenges in the future, the move to more e-books; inclusive practices; collaborative innovations and reduced copyright restrictions.

Presentation/workshop topics could cover:

  • Interlending & Document Supply Service Reviews
    • Service Development/Practical solutions to everyday problems
    • The impact and implications of copyright law
    • Interlending tools and systems
    • Open access
    • Money Saving Initiatives
    • Meeting the needs of disabled users
    • International interlending

There are a number of different types of presentation you can submit and they are as follows:

Breakout Presentations

Breakout sessions are typically 45 minutes long and can be tailored to meet the speaker’s needs – either chalk-and-talk or workshop based.

Lightning Presentation new for 2020

Lightning presentations are an ideal opportunity for you to report on recently completed projects, innovations or other developments in the field of interlending. Short presentations give you 15 minutes to take a high level overview of key elements of the project and share both what you did and what has changed (15 minutes total).

Costs:

Breakout Presentations Speakers accepted at FIL events will be able to attend the full conference free of charge, along with one night’s accommodation where required, travel expenses will not be paid

Lightning Presentation Speakers accepted at FIL event will be able to attend as a day delegate, travel expenses will not be paid.

Proposals should be emailed to the Chair of FIL Jean Christopher fil.committee@gmail.com by 29th March 2020 after which point they will be reviewed by the Committee. The Chair will be in touch with all applicants after this date to confirm or decline your proposal. Submission of a proposal does not guarantee acceptance, and the Committee’s considered selection of proposals is final. We regret that due to time restrictions no correspondence over the decision will be entered into.

If you’d like to informally discuss possible themes, topics or approaches for your sessions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Jean Christopher fil.committee@gmail.com
